We are a VERY small company. But yes we are big enough to employ a few people and we like to think we treat them with respect. We currently employ 8 people in our factory and also use outsourced manufacturing within New Zealand. We are very keen to keep our manufacturing in NZ as we think it is important.....why you ask? Why not send it the China "the workshop of the world" and reap the benefits of your great ideas? Why?
Well this is our thinking....
- You can't design well without having an affinity for both the product and the process. We have sewing machines here and we use 'em - we like it and the products are different because of this
- Does China respect the rights of the individual? Does it use clean energy? Will it use it's new power wisely or not? Well we don't know but it's easier for us to judge if New Zealand has clean power and good social governance and lobby accordingly if not
- People in New Zealand require employment as much as they do in China
- We're frankly not big enough to play the global manufacturing game and if we were I don't think we'd want to. Spending your time in a plane polluting the planet and shifting production to the new cheap export zone isn't any of our's idea of fun
- Watching something being made in the Cactus factory is fun.
